When I push send on this post, I'll be on Maui, weathering an approaching tropical storm in order to be at my son's swim meet. Therefore I thought it appropriate, first off, to feature Saturday sweets vendor Island Treats.
The island in question isn't Maui, but rather Mercer Island--close enough, right? Especially when the website mentions the effect of Northwest rainy weather on toffee-making (it zaps any self-control). At least in Maui, I'll be drenched in an ambient 87F rainstorm.
Our lovely confectioners |
My sad little iPhone pics don't do these yummy sweets justice, so let me just say, they tend to combine my favorite things: dark chocolate, marshmallows, caramel, pretzels. I'm not personally a fan of the bizarre in my chocolate, preferring to rip out my fillings with the good old-fashioned stuff. And since Island Treats took better pictures than I did, just check these out:
My personal Kryptonite |
Another fatal flaw |
Some people can resist candy. I know. I've heard of them. But can they also resist pie?
This Saturday we'll be favored with another visit by atpies.com! If you caught them on their first visit, June 13th, you got a taste of their unique, irresistible mini pies.
Well, this Saturday, August 8th, marks their second visit to our Market.
Dates for the calendar |
Alvin and Tina offer a seasonal variety of handheld pies--I sampled Green Tea Matcha in June--and they avoid over-sweetening, which is great if you prefer to taste your filling, rather than having it overpowered by the sugar.
I'm betting we might see the Matcha again, and probably a peach pie, but just to be safe, you could always buy a sampler:
I'll be sorry to miss, being enroute from water-logged Maui to California (it's travel time for the fam), so please do have a caramel and a mini pie for me!
